Slide Cat is a recreation of Nyan Cat from a different perspective, instead of wearing his classic body poptart, he's sitting on top of it, sliding down his rainbow trail.
This spoof is unique due to the effort put into its appearance, unlike variants which use the same format as the original Nyan Cat. This work presents Nyan Cat with light blue eyes, unlike its traditional counterpart.
The song accompanying this artwork is Super Mario 64's slide theme in 8-bit.[1]
Slide Nyan Cat was originally uploaded as a gag from the webcomic Friday 4Koma on October 18, 2011, titled "You're Doing it Wrong!". It presents someone misinterpreting what Nyan Cat looks like, and coming up with Slide Nyan Cat's design. The description of the comic reads:
"Apparently that guy doesn't know what Pop Tart Cat Nyan Cat is suppose to look like.
I call this combination of pieces "Slide Cat."."
The popular gif of Slide Nyan Cat alone circulated and was reposted on platforms such as youtube as early as December 2011. The comic of this Nyan's origin ended in March 2019, meaning it ran for almost a decade. The creator of Slide Nyan Cat is artist and designer Steve Napierski.
